Caged Bird

My grandma was diagnosed to having Glaucoma. She'll go blind in who knows when. She had been indirectly expressing the want to see her future great grandchildren as long as her sight allow her, so my mom had this idea of setting me up on a date with a doctor 5 years older than me, and I extremely do not agree with it. They had been planning my whole life ever since. My degree, where should I work, what should I become, sometimes even the clothes I wear. I don't want them to interfere even at this point of my life. Marriage is not something I get to decide on with a snap of a finger or tossing a coin. I know it would be more thrilling and adventurous that way but this means the rest of my remaining life. Besides, I don't believe in marriage, and this makes me an ungrateful person. But I'm just expressing my freedom, finally, after almost 3 decades. Too bad though, they made me into an educated, liberal person who doesn't care if she finds someone or not. I just want everything to be spontaneous, simple and sincere this time. No planning, pretensions and above all, pressure. I just want to be free...

as with most things we love, we bind them for our own needs to meet our own expectations of what we wish we had been.

On Children
by Kahlil Gibran (verse 1)

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
